Dinesh Katre Bio

Dr. Dinesh Katre is a Design Researcher and Product Innovator. He is the author of book “Neuro-Attentive Design: Cognitive Design for Human–AI Interaction” published in 2025. He created the pioneering online course Design Psychology for Product Innovation and the founder of EngramLogic, a company dedicated to advancing the emerging field of Psychonomic Interaction Design within Human–AI Interaction Design. As the former Senior Director and founder of the Human-Centred Design & Computing Group at the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC), Dinesh led the design and development of numerous software products and solutions anchored in Human–Computer Interaction (HCI) research. He has also spearheaded several national-level initiatives focused on computing for cultural heritage and digital preservation.

A tireless advocate for Cognitive and Behavioral Product Innovation & Design, he has conducted widely attended Open Design Psychology Webinars that engage the UX community in exploring the psychological dimensions of diverse domains including Social Media, Digital Payments, Service Design, Gamification, Digital Empathy, and AI–Metahuman Interaction Design. Beyond public education, he provides expert consultancy to multinational IT firms, helping them innovate through cognitive and behavioral design strategies.

His contributions have earned global recognition. He received the Emmett Leahy Award (2020) and the NDSA Individual Innovation Award (2019), both prestigious honors in the United States. Projects under his leadership have also won the Manthan Digital Inclusion Awards (South Asia & Asia Pacific) in 2015 and 2012. Dinesh is the recipient of the PCQuest First Prize for the national “GUI of the Future” competition, awarded in May 2003. During his tenure at C-DAC, he received multiple institutional honours, including the C-DAC PARAM Award for Excellence and several C-DAC Annual Awards of Distinction.

Dinesh has served as Vice Chair of IFIP WG 13.6 on Human Work Interaction Design, and has edited two books on Cultural Usability published in Springer’s Advances in Information Communication and Technology (AICT) series. He has authored numerous research articles, national study reports, and technical standards. He represented India in the UNESCO's International Experts Consultative Meet for Preserving in Digital Era in 2014 at Warsaw, Poland. He has been invited as a Keynote Speaker at many international conferences in India and abroad.

He holds a Ph.D. in Human–Computer Interaction (2005) from BITS Pilani (sponsored and hosted by C-DAC) and a Master of Design (1992) from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. Outside his professional work, Dinesh is also a singer and music composer. Together with his son Paritosh, he has composed a collection of 70 songs titled Geet Dnyaneshwari.
